Military Plane spotted over Cockburnspath

The last thing you expect to spot in the skies above East Lothian is a NATO Boeing E-3 Sentry military spyplane, but that’s exactly what one eagle eyed local resident saw in Dunbar earlier today (17 May).

The high-tech airborne early warning and control plane is in Scotland as part of a huge missile defence drill that has been taking place off the coast since Tuesday 7 May 2019, and are due to continue until 19 May.

It’s called Exercise Formidable Shield and is mainly taking place in the Western Isles of Scotland.

Oldhamstocks dogs helping pupils to read at Dunbar Grammar School

PUPILS at Dunbar Grammar School are being given a helping hand with their reading thanks to a one-year-old Labrador called Bella and her four-legged friends.

Bella, who is owned by teacher Darren Martin, has been working at the school as part of a Paws To Read programme.

She joins in literacy classes, providing youngsters with a non-judgemental listening ear as they read out loud to her.

And she has become such a hit that she is now joined in class by Buddy and Toby, two friendly toy poodles from Oldhamstocks who accompany their 14-year-old owner Jacob Mells to the class.

Oldhamstocks Bike Ride #3

Steve Findlay and Chris Bruce invite you to join them on Saturday 25th May for a third village bike ride!

The first two rides took us from Oldhamstocks to “The Store” at Thistlycross.

This time we propose to depart from Thistlycross and ride for approximately 15 miles (on flatter terrain). There are a couple of points along the way where it will be possible to branch off and do a shorter ride.

The route is on quiet roads and some short sections of rough track; but not on a segregated cycle path. For this reason we ask that all children are actively chaperoned by a parent or other nominated adult.

Lifts for cyclists and bikes will be available from the village to and from The Store.

Depart from Oldhamstocks: 09.30 a.m.

Depart from The Store: 10.00 a.m.

If you need a lift for you and your bike, please let Steve (Cherrytree Cottage) or Chris (The Old School) know in advance of the day.

We look forward to enjoying a cup of coffee and perhaps even a cake afterwards at The Store, probably around midday.

Do join us!
