Dunbar’s lifeboat crew came to the aid of four anglers whose boat suffered engine failure a mile north of East Beach on Sunday (3 August).
HM Coastguard paged for the volunteers shortly before 5.10pm after the anglers reported they were drifting without power. The inshore D class lifeboat David Lauder launched minutes later and was on scene at 5.20pm.
After assessing all the available options, the crew decided to tow the small motor vessel back to Dunbar Harbour, where the boat was safely berthed by 6.15pm.The incident prompted the RNLI volunteers to issue important safety advice. Helm Jamie Forrester said: ‘The boat crew were well equipped with lifejackets and did the right thing by calling for help. However, we would urge all boat users to always wear their lifejackets as even strong swimmers can experience the effects of cold water shock if they fall overboard.’
If you see anyone in trouble on or around the water call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
Preparations are underway for community council elections taking place later this year.
Residents keen to make a difference in their local area will have an opportunity to put themselves forward for election to one of East Lothian’s 20 community councils. Community councils are run on a voluntary basis by local people.
Nominations will open on Monday 1 September. People aged 16 years and over interested in getting involved will have until 18 September to lodge nomination papers.
Depending on the number of nominations received for the places available per community council, elections will then be held with residents living in the corresponding community council area able to vote on Thursday 9 October.
