Local Energy Developments

Following the existence of Torness Nuclear Power Station and a number of onshore wind farms, the East Lammemuir area has been chosen for an upgrade in the National Grid, in the form of a new 400kV substation at Branxton. Along with connection to two offshore wind farms, the substation will be an integral part of the Eastern Green Link 1 Project which will export electrcity from Thorntonloch to Durham, thus bypassing export problems in the National Grid between Scotland and England caused by aging infrastructure.

The new Branxton substation, once constructed, will provide additional connectivity in the form of localised electricity generation, which has attracted a number of proposals such as BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) and wind or solar farms.

The projects currently proposed are displayed on the East Lammermuir Developments website and partially replicated below. A number of these developments will run concurrently and attempts to coordinate the disruption likley to be caused by construction activity has been mixed.

A timeline of those developments likley to affect Oldhamstocks is shown below.

The most immediate and having the potential for negative impact to Oldhamstocks is Springfield Solar Farm

Currently Under Review and Postponed  - Road Closure

To facilitate the commencement of the construction of the Haul Road from the A1 (Bilsdean Turn-off) to the Branxton Substation construction site, there will be a series of road closures starting with - the road between the A1 (Bilsdean Turn-off) and Bilsdean and the junction to Birnieknowes will be closed with signed diversions in place to Birnieknowes via Thorntonloch/Crowhill/Thornton Bridge/Branxton and Bilsdean/Dunglass via Cockburnspath Roundabout.
